Terry Adams, Jr. OWNER, INSTRUCTOR, & HEAD TRAINER
Terry Adams Jr., is the CEO and Head Trainer at TK9 (Tactical K9). As a renowned dog trainer and handler, he has over 9 years of civilian and military experience training dogs in narcotics and explosives detection, obedience, guard, home protection, sports, and as well as over 16 years of personal experience training, breeding, and handling canines.
After attending college, he decided to join the US Army. During his military career, he was both a dog trainer and bomb dog handler for 6 years. He also worked at Barker Haus Kennels assisting the owners Jim and Angie Morgan in El Paso, TX. They became his mentors in the field of Dog Training. During his time with Barker Haus Kennels, he provided obedience, guard, home protection, sport, and narcotics detection in canine training. Adams later trained under Dave van Garderen while attending The Tom Rose School for Professional Dog Trainers, graduating second in his class. Under this program, Adams attended lectures, demonstrations and extensive supervised hands-on canine training. Adams also attended and graduated from The Vohne Liche Kennels training program, specializing in explosives as a certified bomb dog handler.
Today, he continues to train dogs and their owners at the TK9 Facilities, in Register, GA. He lectures on basic and advanced obedience, protection, agility, and service dog training.
Born and raised in Oakland, CA, he has always had a love for animals. Beginning at the age of four, he collected stray dogs at home begging his mom to let him keep them as training projects. She would later say, “Most people could not measure up to her son, even at a young age. No one comes close to caring for dogs like my son.”
Adams has always had a passion for training canines. At the age of 9 he was introduced to professional dog training by his Uncle Larry Johnson, founder of K9 Comrades. There he learned the foundations of protection, detection and obedience training. At age 13, he began an internship at El Cerrito Veterinary Clinic where he excelled. The owners were so impressed by Adams, they offered him employment. Adams worked there for 3 additional years.
